Liseberg station is a local train station used by commuter trains between
Gothenburg and Kungsbacka. The station is very protected, as it is located
underground.
Close to 3 000 passengers choosed to travel with the Panorama train during the
period of 5 days, this was well noted in the press and at the exhibition.
Background
In 2007 Sweden received a new train regulation, allowing charter trains to use
tracks previously only available to SJ train AB. By 2010 all passenger traffic
should be deregulated. NetRail AB, owner of the Panorama train was founded in
1995 as a sales channel to former SJ Cargo Group for wagons to be exported
outside Europe, later changed to all markets. Today NetRail have a central
position in the north European rail market with focus on three main business
areas i.e. wagon keeper, S&P of wagons, locomotives and rail logistics. The
company now also renovates older passenger wagons up to today’s standard. The
wagons are then to be rented out or sold out across Europe. Main parts of the
renovation takes place in Swedish train workshops in Västervik and Vetlanda. The
maintenance of the wagons takes place at Hagalund just outside of Stockholm by
Swetrac.
Future
NetRail have made an application for en exemption to the Swedish government for
the Panorama train. NetRail want on a regular basis over weekends carry
passengers from/from Stockholm to Gothenburg. Behind the launch of the project
the Panorama train is persons with long experience from other modes of
transport. The project now awaits the Swedish government’s decision. If NetRail
grant an exemption, a lot of people that in today cannot afford to travel today
will have the possibility to travel between Stockholm and Gothenburg from 90
Swedish crowns one way.
No Bistro wagon
As a passenger on the Panorama train you have the comfort of being served food
at your seat, just like onboard airplanes. In every wagon there is a train host
that will help and serve passengers with information, snacks anddelicious food.
Low cost train
Charging passengers 1 000 Swedish crowns for a ticket is not hard, as the market
not yet is fully deregulated. The Panorama train’s goal is to carry passengers
on the same route for 90 Swedish crowns with the most expensive ticket about 330
Swedish crowns, depending on seat onboard the train. To keep the goal,
administrative tasks are kept to a minimum, all booking and paying for tickets
are done online. Using modern technology allows us to organize the traffic,
without using lot of personal and keeping the cost down.

Bicycle wagon.
The goal is to give more possibilities to travel with our special bicycle wagon.
We hope to connect the beautiful archipelago of the east and west coast. In this
respect we want to create a new type of passengers and tourists from other
countries to visit Sweden both the east and west coast.
Car wagon
Bringing the European concept of auto-trains to Sweden, we hope to offer the
service of bringing the car with our train. Loading the car on the train and
travel in the comfortable train, reload the car at destination, saves the
environment and cost in gasoline.
Special wagon for persons with special needs.
Panorama train has developed a special wagon for those passengers that have
special needs like wheelchair and permobile. Large toilets, allowing a
wheelchair to fit. Special seats for acompanions to the passengers with special
needs. Service as in the rest of the train, with snacks and delicious food
served at the seat.
Way the Panorama train?
There are may reasons for the government to grant NetRail an exemption.
Competition as such stimulates the economy and should therefore not be
regulated. The European deregulation of passenger traffic allows others such as
Die Bahn, French SNCF and other European companies to establish themselves in
Sweden, while Swedish countries are not allowed to compete on a deregulated
market. In Germany the deregulation of passenger traffic will not take place
until 2012 and in France until 2015.
